Welcome to black [&] alternative.
Black (creativity & authenticity)
Alternative (to popular beliefs)

Goal = to ENTHUSE:
The blog originated around 2018, but has experienced several redesigns. {Haven’t we all?}Journal entries were shared each month in a blog post, reflecting on feelings from the overall “oreo” experience. The term isn’t used much now, but the sentiments, of course, still exist.
blk|alt will reframe this existence for A) the upcoming generation of black youth and B) *anybody who hasn’t accepted the real range of Black people yet. Our appreciation for things that “don’t fit/match” Black culture does not reduce our identity - it enhances it.
You’ve landed in the HBIC’s Galaxy of Great Ideas, created by & for the alternative black mind. This is a hive of hobbies & hopes, searching for those born to work creatively and live consciously. If that sounds sweet,buzz around to learn more.
-
Goal = to ENGAGE:
The HBIC started making zines shortly after her arrival in the Queen City (Charlotte, NC) back in 2022.She was inspired by a woman named Bre (Bre’s Tiny Print Shop), who began her zinemaking journey when a professor encouraged her to self-publish and monetize her work.
Zines have helped the HBIC navigate her new environment and process old feelings, and they’ve lead her to upcycling endeavors she once would’ve thought were out of her “artistic abilities”.Small projects are being added on the blk|altBuy Me a Coffee page while the HBIC completes the projects she wants to showcase for the boutique. Stay tuned to the presentations to find out more!
-
Goal = to EMPOWER:
As the blog was redefined & products for the boutique were built, the HBIC decided both would serve 5 ages (13, 16, 18, 21, and 25) and 5 personas (readers, writers, educators, revolutionaries, and “free spirits”).
In her aspiring brick & mortar businesses, she will invest in and partner with black creatives who are also committed to serving these ages and/or personas through their own products and services.These things take time, but if you’d like to help speed up the process, you should consider subscribing.
*Please note: all races, nationalities, etc. are welcome in the Galaxy, but there is, and always will, be a prioritized who/what/why, so you will be banished (and brutally embarassed) if you cannot respect that. Thank you kindly!
